From Documents to Decisions: Designing AI-Powered Financial Workflows

TL;DR

Finofo pivoted from a FX platform for business owners into an AP automation and expense management product. As Lead Product Designer, I led the end-to-end design of this transition, shaping the product direction, workflows, and experience for its AI-powered financial automation system.

Research

I conducted competitive analysis across leading AP automation and expense management tools to understand industry standards, identify gaps in existing solutions, and define opportunities for differentiation. These insights helped establish the foundation for the MVP and informed key workflow decisions around document processing, reconciliation, and approval flows.

Ideation & Exploration

From there, I explored multiple workflow directions through rapid wireframing, focusing on how users move from uploading financial documents to reviewing extracted data and resolving exceptions. This stage helped clarify the structure of the core experience.

Final design

Once the flows were defined, I translated them into high-fidelity designs aligned with Finofo’s brand direction. My focus here was on making complex financial interactions feel clear, structured, and easy to navigate.

Systems thinking and positioning for scale

To support consistency and ensure scalability, I designed an atomic design system with hundred of reusable components and patterns tailored to financial workflows and data-heavy interfaces.

As the Lead Designer, I oversee all design initiatives across both the web platform and companion mobile app, driving the end-to-end user experience, interface design, and overall product visual direction.
